How’s 2017 going for you? Maybe you’re focused on fitness, finances and food in order to have a healthier life. Those are important goals, but no goal is more important than cultivating the habit of reading and pondering the Word of God every day.
Psalm 1:1-2 says, “Oh, the joys of those who ... delight in the law of the LORD, meditating on it day and night.” (NLT)
If we fail to read and obey the Bible, we will lack the power and the enthusiasm needed to impact the world for Christ. If we commit to practice this discipline every day, our spiritual lives will be headed in the right direction.
2. Fill up
Colossians 3:16a encourages us, “Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives.” (NLT)
Make taking in God’s Word your most important habit.
3. Understand that the writers spoke from God
2 Peter 1:20-21 reads, “ You must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding, or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God.” (NLT)
The Bible is not false history. It is the oldest and most accurate history book. These are God’s Words for every one of us. God has spoken and is still speaking through the Bible.
4. Remember that ALL Scripture is useful
2 Timothy 3:16 says, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” (NLT)
It is useful for your everyday life. It shows us how to live in light of the reality of God.
5. Obey it
James 1:22a reminds us, "... don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says." (NLT)
We can know the right words and still not be changed. Is there an area of your life that doesn’t live up with what the Bible says? This is the real power of the Bible – when we allow it to transform the way we think, speak, act and live.
